Hotels in Wallis and Futuna: Where to Stay on Both Islands

Hotels in Wallis and Futuna: ten official listings, from a backpacker inn to family hotels and guesthouses, with area guidance and how to book direct.

There are ten places to stay on the official tourism board's accommodation page for hotels in Wallis and Futuna: seven on Wallis and three on Futuna. They range from a backpacker-style inn to small family hotels and guesthouses. There are no dedicated online booking sites for them, so you contact each property directly.

01

What kind of stays to expect

On Wallis the board lists small family hotels, a bed and breakfast, an inn and a guesthouse; Wallis accommodation is all enquiry-only. Futuna has two hotels, a guesthouse and a few homestays. This is not a resort destination: the territory's tourism plan is to develop homestays and secure hiking trails, with no luxury hotel projects, and the tourism office counts about fifteen accommodation offers in total, hotels and homestays together.

If you are looking for where to stay in Wallis and Futuna, think small, local and direct: the board describes small family hotels, an inn, a guesthouse and a bed and breakfast. The ten listings below are all shown as current on the board's page, with no closures flagged.

02

Wallis: around Mata'Utu

Most of the listed Wallis stays are in the Hahake district, close to the capital. Auberge Tanoa in Mata'Utu is a backpacker-style inn and is about 5 km from the airport. Gîte Oceania sits in central Mata'Utu above the Teone snack bar. Hotel Ulukula, also in Mata'Utu, has a restaurant. Hotel Lomipeau and Hotel Moana Hou are both at Aka'aka, with Lomipeau about 800 m from Mata'Utu. Moana Hou's listing mentions studios and bungalows as well as rooms.

Staying here puts you near the cathedral, the wharf and the main cluster of eateries, which is convenient if you are relying on short drives.

03

Wallis: the south and the lagoon side

Lausikula Guesthouse is a chambre d'hôtes at Lausikula in the Mua district, in south Wallis. It is listed as 4.3 km from Lake Lalolalo and close to Talietumu, so it suits anyone planning the southern sights. Motu Location, run as chambres d'hôtes Liufau, is at Afala in Liku, where the Vakala watersports centre is based; its listing mentions Starlink Wi-Fi.

Choose the south if you want a short drive to the crater lake and the fortress site. Choose Hahake if you want to walk to the capital's sights.

04

Futuna: Nuku, Toloke and Kolia

Hotel Fiafia is at Nuku, with a restaurant and bar, and is listed as 11 km from the airport. Somalama Park Hotel at Toloke is family run and has a restaurant. MMF Hébergement is at Kolia in Alo, near the beach. Futuna's roads are poorer than those on Wallis, with dirt roads to key sites, so allow extra time when you are moving between villages.

Practical points before you book

Rates and room counts on the board's pages are undated, so we do not repeat them here. Ask each property for current prices, what is included, and how it takes payment: Hotel Lomipeau and Hotel Ulukula are listed as accepting cards, while Hotel Moana Hou is listed as cash or cheque only.

There is no public transport and there are no taxis, so a hire car is needed; ask whether your host can arrange a pick-up. Access for visitors with reduced mobility is limited, so say so when you enquire. Cyclone season runs from November to April, which is worth considering when you choose dates. If you search in French, hôtel Wallis et Futuna will lead to the same board listings.

06

Which are the best hotels in Wallis?

We do not rank them. The records hold no guest ratings or inspection scores, and the listings are enquiry-only, so any ranking would be our opinion rather than evidence. Choose by location, by whether you want a restaurant on site, and by how you intend to pay.

This guide is published by IMPT, the booking platform. The Wallis and Futuna properties listed here are enquiry-only, so contact them directly.
