Mata-Utu hotels are few and small: the tourism board lists Auberge Tanoa, Gîte Oceania, Hotel Lomipeau, Hotel Moana Hou and Hotel Ulukula in or just outside the capital of Wallis. There are no dedicated online booking sites, so you contact each place directly and confirm rates, which our records do not give.

Mata-Utu Hotels: Where to Stay in the Capital of Wallis
Mata-Utu hotels and where to stay in the Wallis capital: five listed options, how far they sit from the cathedral, and what to confirm before you book.
01
Staying in the capital: what to expect
If you are looking for a hotel in Mata Utu (hôtel Mata'Utu), start with realistic expectations. Mata'Utu is the capital and main port of Wallis, home to the blue volcanic-stone cathedral. The board describes Wallis accommodation as small family hotels, a bed and breakfast, an inn and a guesthouse; luxury hotel projects are not part of the territory's plan.
All ten listings on the board's accommodation page, across both Wallis and Futuna, are shown as current on the board page, with no closures flagged. Rates and room counts on the source pages are undated, so we do not quote any.
02
The five listings, one by one
Auberge Tanoa, in Mata'Utu (Hahake), is described as a backpacker-style inn. Gîte Oceania is in central Mata'Utu above the Teone snack bar. Hotel Ulukula is in Mata'Utu and has a restaurant.
Hotel Lomipeau and Hotel Moana Hou are both at Aka'aka in Hahake district; Lomipeau is about 800 m from Mata'Utu.
03
Walking or driving to the sights
Staying in or near Mata'Utu puts you close to the cathedral, built 1952-1959 with two towers and a Maltese cross and holding a royal tomb. Hotel Lomipeau is about 800 m from Mata'Utu by the board's own figure.
Beyond town you will want transport: there is no public transport and no taxis, so a hire car is needed, and traffic drives on the right. A coastal drive round Wallis is about 35 km.
04
When Mata-Utu is not the best base
If your priorities are the crater lake and the Talietumu fort site, the Lausikula Guesthouse in south Wallis sits near both, and Motu Location at Liku is another option on the coast. Those are outside the capital, so they trade a short walk to town for a longer drive.
Vakala watersports and taxi-boat trips to the islets run from Liku, and other taxi boats leave from Gahi Bay and Vailala.
05
How to book, honestly
There are no dedicated online booking sites for these places. The board's listing page has contact details for each property, undated, and the tourism board has a general contact form. Ask directly about rates, meals, airport pick-up and whether a hire car can be arranged, and get answers in writing.
Because the island is small and rooms are few, enquire early if your dates fall near a feast day such as 14 July, 15 August or 28 April.
06
Eating and festivals near town
The board's eating-out pages list Angelus Garden in Mata'Utu and Maloccino in central Mata'Utu among the places to eat, so a base in town keeps meals close. Check hours directly, as the pages are undated.
On 15 August dancers perform at the Assumption festival. The diocese has its seat at Mata'Utu, so the capital is the natural base for it.
This guide is published by IMPT, the booking platform. The properties above are enquiry-only, so contact them directly.
